This how-to guide teaches you how to make your own Galt-style obedience collar with step-by-step instructions.  This obedience/pain collar is modeled after the one worn by Galt, the master thrall of Triskelion.

Please note you will have the ability to download a PDF guide for three (3) days after your purchase.

In this guide, you’ll get:

  1. Step-by-Instructions on How to Make Your Obedience Collar.
  2. A clever way to attach and adjust the position of the triangles. While our method allows their position to be adjusted, it also holds them firmly in place.
  3.  A way to make the collar appear to be metal, but is not.  Best of all, the metallic color will not rub off on your costume.
  4. What LEDs to use.
  5. How a single, rechargeable 9V battery is used.
  6. The circuit you’ll use to control the lights from within your pocket.
  7. What battery holder to use with a built-in switch, saving you time and money.
  8. Where to get the parts.
  9. How you can save money on coloring.

Note:  Our how-to guide assumes you know how to make molds which you will need to make for the triangle pieces. Making a mold is a separate topic and takes practice. It is not difficult and there are plenty of how-to videos online. All of the other steps are provided along with sources for the materials used in each step.

How many quatloos will you pay for the newcomer?

Obedience Pain Collar worn by Dan Davidson as Galt in Gamesters of Triskelion, Star Trek Las Vegas 2019

The Back Story

This collar is worn by Galt in the sixteenth episode (“The Gamesters of Triskelion”) of the second season of Star Trek™, a science fiction television series. When Kirk, Uhura, and Chekov find themselves in a gladiator arena on a strange planet, Galt informs that they are to be trained to participate in games to entertain his masters, the Providers. They are fitted with obedience collars that engage when they disobey the Master Thrall’s orders. The initial color for a “newcomer” is white and changes as they win the games against their competitors. Galt, the master thrall, has three colors – yellow, red and blue.

  1. Tim Vittetoe

    Greetings cosplayers!!!
I am new to cosplay. I have always wanted to do it, but was never sure where to begin with costume creation. Ever since I was a young kid in the 70’s, I loved Joseph Ruskin’s performance as Galt in the TOS classic “The Gamesters of Triskelion” and I remember telling my Trek Geeks cohost Bill that if I was ever going to cosplay, it would be as Galt.

Well in early 2019 I decided I was going to make it happen for that years STLV. I wanted my first cosplay experience to be a memorable one. Shaving my head bald and growing, sculpting and dying my beard just the right way would be the easy part. Getting the Triskelion Logo and red “neck visor” made would be my first attempt at using moldable materials, but I was up to the challenge. I already knew that the amazing and talented Lisa Hansell would be able to use latex to cover my eyebrows and give my skin that pasty look of Galt with her makeup expertise. I had a beautifully designed cape with magnetic clasps…but the key to this cosplay…the very ESSENCE of what Galt was would be his Master Drill Thrall Obedience Collar. I didn’t even know where to begin.

Then I remembered that Tim Vittetoe had made props in the past and had followed him and ImpaQt FX on social media and saw his creations. I had the honor of meeting both he and Lisa during the Star Trek Continues days and reached out to him about the possibility of designing the collar.
I cannot thank Tim enough for EVERYTHING he did for this project. He kept me up to date with every step of the process and sent pictures of the build of the collar and IT. IS. PERFECT!! It fits perfectly around my neck and looks spectacular. The coloring of the triads is absolutely amazing and the extra feature of being able to light them up makes this Galt cosplay something I may never be able to top!! The back of the collar has a small hole in it for the wiring to go down my back under my cape and I hold the power switch in my hand and can turn it on and off whenever I want.

The work that Tim put into this piece is second to none and anyone who chooses to work with the plans that he made for the design of this collar will be very happy with the result. There are not enough quatloos on Triskelion to thank him for the work he has done. I would love to say that I have a ‘one of a kind’ item, but knowing how happy someone would be when they make their own collar based on Tim’s instruction makes it worth sharing!

Best of luck in your cosplay adventures…the Providers will be pleased!
